Caberat: Risqué portrayal of the Germans

The wonderful castLast night I attended Caberat the Musical at the Pieter Toeriens Theatre at Monte Casino. My friend invited me and I had no idea what I was going to get. So with no idea of the story line….at all, we went along to this show. The opening scene set the style for the rest of the show straight away. We were in for a raunchy, sexy, risky and extremely fun evening. The emcee of the evening was absolutely hilarious. He was full of sexual innuendoes – subtle and not at all subtle and pulled the whole show together.

The storyline followed a young man (Cliff) from America who arrives in Germany to teach English lessons and write a novel. While on the train into Germany he meets a German man (who later turns out to be a Nazi) who befriends Cliff and tells him where to stay. On Cliff’s first night in Berlin he finds himself in a the seedy Kit Kat Club where British performer Sally Bowles performs. The rest of the story shows the relationship that Cliff and Sally develop as well as the very sexual and wild life that Berlin holds.

The performance was very well done, each actor and actress very convincing in their roles. If you are of sensitive nature this show may not be for you as it can be described as quite risque, at times not knowing where to look. It is definitely not a show to take the whole family, but extremely fun nonetheless.
